Thumbs up Welcome to the K world - aka the Dark Side.

I know your area well, have friends over in Palm Springs - and always wish I had my K when I'm there.

Headlight - I have an older K, and the headlight seemed .... dim ... to me. Common and easy solution to to rewire it with a relay kit, roll your own or buy ready to go from someone like Eastern Beaver.com. The relay increases the brightness by 30% or so. I also switched to a ultra white bulb.

Given that it gets really dark in your desert, I would also consider adding driving lights - most BMW riders seem to do this. Note, don't expect the cheap ones at the local discount store to do much - good optics cost money.

Backrests should be available at Pirate's Lair - http://www.piratesk12site.net/.

Some prefer using a rear topcase instead.

Safe riding... you'll love that K!

Lucky;
The ground wires on these bikes are too small.
I use Syvania Silver stars bulbs,some use HID and have soldered a thicker ground wire to the headlight ground post.

i also added a set of driving lites just under the fairing in front of the oil cooler.

at the rear end Some more reflector tape on the mud flap and bags and more red lites on the bags also help.

get a radar detector, it will pay for it's self in a week.
