Knee Pain

I just finished the SS1000 and BB1500 over the weekend and about halfway through the ride my knees started to hurt. I didn't take any breaks to speak of, which didn't help, but I wanted to see if other people are experiencing this and what they're doing to combat it.

My height seems relevant: I'm 5'11".

Question for you. How often do you stand up on the pegs and just ride for a mile or so? Cruise control really helps, and gentle turns aren't an issue. I go to Texas once a year and find on the return trip (after riding for 7 days straight) that after about 100 miles, standing up for a bit is good for another 100 miles or so, and I'm usually stopping for gas anyway.

I'll stand up for a few seconds, but not for longer than that. I'll have to try standing for a longer duration on the next trip. I do stick my legs out to the sides a bit, but standing may also help with the seat discomfort.

You have the give the blood time to start circulating, which is why a few seconds doesn't seem to help me. I go for a mile or so.

Where abouts in the knee do you feel pain? It may be a different issue than just getting a little tight while riding. If you let me know I can recommend a few fixes. This is my area of expertise.

Raising the seat to the high position on my RS helps straighten my old knees just a little bit...enough to make a difference on a longer trip.

It feels like the pain is coming from the inside of the knee between the bones. I guess that's the medial meniscus. Once the pain starts, I can extend the sore leg and feel it "pop". If I do this 5 times in 5 minutes, it'll pop each time.
