opinion please

K12 died in the bum on the free way today. Symptoms of fuel problem. Stripped it down and bench tested the fuel pump with a hot wire. No reaction. Will take it to the auto elect for confirmation tomorrow. Just thought I would check with the knowledgeable forum. Beer clock Sunday here, cannot do much else.

But I can tell you that being towed home by a friend in a 4 X 4 , hanging onto his roll bar, is damn hard on the arm.

Good luck with it Pap, from what youve described it sounds like your on the money. I am surprised though that your not on the island for the GP.

Good thing it wasn't a boat.LOL

If it is the pump see if the auto electrician can replace it. I had one die on an 1100 and I got one from an auto electrician 100 bucks cheaper than the dealer. Same pump just not in a BMW box. From memory it came in a Bosch box.

Cheers

pump

Further to all that! After a few green tinnies, I went out to the work shop. Hooked up the pump and gave it a thump with a screw driver handle. It worked like a charm. Not sure what size screw driver I had at the time. I remember a long time ago we were stuck because of a faulty coil. I gave it a bang as the driver turned the motor, worked. Dunno where all this takes me, but I am still working at it.

pump

$660 for a new pump, we can get it in tomorrow. Crap. Bought a used one for $250 from the wreckers. Not my original plan but a trusted workshop advised me that they did not have one, and had never changed one. Anyways the bike is up and running. I have changed 3 pumps in other vehicles because they were noisy, a sure sign they were coming to the end of their useful life. Hope the bike gives a similar warning this time. I note that a $160 Holden fuel pump is almost the same. (I think we ship those cars to the US as Pontiac police cars , or we plan to)

Please no offense, but they better hurry if they ship to North America, GM is discontinuing the Pontiac brand after this model year I think, they just sent me a letter saying that as a new Pontiac owner I was part of a long and proud tradition....Blah Blah Blah.....and not to worry my 5 years warranty was still valid.....Blah Blah Blah.....But the thing is a POS anyway, front rotors shot at 8,000 miles, rear not very good, air whistling around the doors........
I don't think I would want one of their OEM fuel pump on my bike.....sorry just venting....!
But for a funnier one on that,I see by your bio that you drove quite a few police vehicles.
My father was a Chevy dealer, and in the very early seventies we sold a lot of police cars, the Quebec Provincial Police decided to order them with Big Block 454 instead of their usual 350's to try to catch up with all the fast cars coming out of Detroit at the time, but someone on the assembly line decided that they probably did not need all that power and restricted the Intake and Exhaust manifolds. Top speed was....107 miles an hour.
I was getting better than that on my 69 Impala 350 with 200,000 miles on it
We sure had some good laughs about that in the shop, and quite a few test rides where we also "tested" the lights and sirens on the back roads......
So what can I say but thanks for reminding me about it.....

Pontiac

Well its only the badge. They sell Holdens here as Toyotas also. Heaps go to the middle east as Holden. They can make a good muscle car though. I have been in an USA police car with the siren going and the party lights on. Not like in the movies. As the driver said, "My wife in her Volvo could do better than this>" ( I think the fastest four door production car ever built was our Ford XY GT Falcon. A car of the 70's . If you have one they are so expensive you have to sleep in it with a shotgun, and that would be behind locked gates.)

The fastest police car we ever had was the last run of Chevy Caprices. They had it all... great brakes, great handling, lots of room inside, stability at high speeds, a beefy electrical system which could handle all the extras, and of course, they were astoundingly fast. With their bulbous design and with the black and white paint, we all called them "Orcas".
