Ist oil change on my k1200gt

I picked up the bike last year from Max bmw NY with 17,000 miles.I was told "We are the best dealership in the US .The bike will be fully serviced before delivery."So before I changed the oil I called to see what was in need of service. The service Dep.informed me, she had no records of any service at that time.2 hrs later I was got a call from the salesman that sold me the bike was fully serviced including they change of the final drive fluid. He said wait to 24,000 to service again.I was all set and like to change oil (at the very least once a year).I also planed on changing the final drive fluid after reading up on this.So to make a short story long. The drive fluid was blackkkkk. No metal frags Thank God. Does this add up ? The oil change was a walk in the park and changing the drive fluid could not have been easer. I honestly think it feels smoother.I moved from NY and now live in Wilmington NC and looking for local rides

Is that the GT1 or GT2?...Did the oil smell burnt?...a bad final drive could be causing the oil to be black even if it were changed back at the dealer miles ago...best thing to do is call them and let them know what you found...save some of that oil you drained...Knowing MAX they will work with you...Just because its black now doesn't mean it wasn't serviced back at the dealer....And MAX is of highest ratings..

How could any kind of vehicle dealership, bike, car, etc, make such an arrogant claim?!!!
I can tell you by experience there is an excellent BMW dealership/service dept right up I-40 from you in Raleigh. Jon Ross, the service manager and a BMW certified master tech, knows his product, the strengths/weaknesses of each model and can diagnose problems very quickly. No BS, just top notch. Call Capitol BMW and speak to Jon if you ever need help. I bought first (an R12) BMW at Cape Fear BMW (BMW wouldn't requalify them as authorized dealership) in Wilmington, but with the the late K13S I've found a FAR better service experience up there. I'm in Morehead City now until move to Greenville, NC.... will be much closer then.

There is a area-wide BMW rider club around Wilmington.... Coastal Carolina BMW Riders Club. Suggest trying the club's email address: [email protected]
I think a fellow named Bill Murray in Wilmington checks it.

Good luck with your bike.

I spent months looking on line for another bike after my accident and MAX BMW had numerous bike on EBay so I figure they make their claim by volume. Their prices were the highest around I guess that goes with being in New York and when I called their internet sales manager he was very gruff I guess that also goes with New York.
