Looking for info on 1999 K1200RS

I purchased a 1999 K1200RS this last fall. Flew from Salt Lake City to Minneapolis. Owner picked me up at the airport and drove over to Mall of America to work out the details. I then saddled up and drove 1300 miles back to SLC in two and a half days. What a great bike! Now that I've had a chance to go over my new ride a little more closely, I'm looking for current/former owners who might be able to give me some insight into some specific concerns. Some of these are; not getting quite the mileage I should be getting (my 2001 LT got a consistent 42 - 45 mpg). I'm looking for an appropriate tank bag. And is there anyone out there the may have the Aero Flow windshield they would part with?

Hoping to hear from you in snowing Salt Lake

PS Utah is a great place to ride motorcycles!

The 2003 I have averages 37.5 MPG, this over the last almost 8 years and 152k miles. Hardly ever over 40, and rarely under 35. Commute and long haul (well, what I consider long haul anyway).
Check classifieds for tank bags. I've never used one, so I can't comment there as well as the windshield.

I may have a tank bag for you, was part of "package deal" I bought. That's the real BMW one that expands. Missing the map sleeve( available separately from BMW) but otherwise seems in good shape, however I never really looked at it much and I won't be back home for another 3 weeks to do that. But if you are interested send me a PM, I don't care much for tank bags so willing to let it go.

with my 2003 KRS i averaged 38 mpg...so if you're averaging the same you should be good to go. i never messed with tank bags so i can't provide any input on different makes or models.

I see that you attempt to compare the mileage you got on a K1200LT. The K1200RS has different cams, larger throttle-body (manifolds) and more compression to be able to deliver more horsepower.

Do not expect to get the same mileage even if you ride it like a old lady :-)

During my 80,000 miles on my K1200RS, the average I got is 36 to 40 mpg depending on how hard (and fast) I ride it.

Sounds about right, not that I ever calculate milleage....! Not that relevant when you are having fun. Careful riding out there at 36 MPG on that good Ultramar gasoline.....A very cute cop made me aware of the new speeding fines last summer, but as a rider she understood the smoothness of them bikes and let me off at over 140 Kph. Thanks Mademoiselle Brulot......!

But to the OP, a new O2 sensor may help the milleage considerably, and you do not have to pay big BMW prices for one, my $60.00 Canadian Tire Bosch Universal has done just fine for a couple years.
