wiring for heated grips

Hello all.
I have a burned out wiring loom for my heated grips and wonder if anyone can supply spec for readings I can expect if I check the resistance on the grips?

I dont want to simply replace the wiring for it to burn out again.

Its a 1990 16v K100 RS by the way.

Thanks in advance
