Site Usage Tip - Using RSS to read the forums

With upwards of 200 posts per day, sometimes it's impossible to keep up with everything by navigating the forums. As one of the enhanced features we offer is the ability to read posts via RSS feeds. BTW, RSS means "Really Simple Syndication". Most blogging sites use this as a way to push information to subscribers.

If you have a Mail program that handles RSS Feeds (like Mozilla Thunderbird) or an RSS Feed Reader (like FeedDemon), you can now skim many threads without navigating through the site.

RSS Feed Readers:

Windows: FeedDemon - http://www.bradsoft.com/feeddemon/index.asp
FYI: RSS Feed capability will be in Internet Explorer 7.0

Mac OS X: Vienna - http://www.opencommunity.co.uk/vienna2.html
FYI: Safari (10.4+ only) handles RSS Feeds by default.

I am using Thunderbird to get RSS Feeds and it works pretty well. Not quite as well as individual email, but it does allow you to skim a lot of information in a very short period of time.

The link for the RSS Feed is on the main home page at http://www.k-bikes.com (look for the RSS Boards logo)

We have two methods of reading via RSS:
  • Thread Update - Only the thread update is included in the RSS Feed (Note - only the original post in the thread will be updated in this feed)
  • Individual Post - Individual posts are included in the RSS Feed (My preferred method of reading)
Thread Update Feed is accessible using the following URL in your RSS Reader:
Code:
http://www.k-bikes.com/forums/external.php?type=RSS2
Individual Post Feed is accessible using the URL behind the RSS image logo on the front page, or the following URL in your RSS Reader:
Code:
http://www.k-bikes.com/forums/new_external.php?type=rss2&postlen=FULL&qty=100&bbcode=PARSE&html=YES
NOTE: If you don't want to receive every post for every forum/subforum, you can use the &forumids parameter to limit the forums you want to receive as a RSS feed. For example, if you only wanted to get the K1200S, K1200RS/GT, Humor and Campfire forums, you would specify &forumids=40,42,17,18 as part of the URL. For example:
Code:
http://www.k-bikes.com/forums/new_external.php?type=rss2&postlen=FULL&forumids=40,42,17,18&qty=100&bbcode=PARSE&html=YES
The following provides a catalog of forum numbers for the &forumids parameter:
