The Honda Sport Touring Association was founded about a million years ago
as a club for folks with Honda V-4's. It later expanded into a club that catered to
the growing segment of "sport touring". While Honda is in the name, reflecting its roots,
the club advertises itself as, and truly is, an all brands group. BMW's comprise
the second largest number of bikes owned by the membership, right after Honda.
It's a small-ish organization, probably in the neighborhood of 2,400 to 2,700
members nationwide, They have numerous weekend rallies around the country
every year, ALWAYS in a place with awesome roads. Always.
The national rally is in a different location every year. Generally it alternates
between east of the Mississippi one year and west of the next. A couple years ago it was in
West Virginia, the year before that it was in Arkansas. Usually about 4 to 5 hundred of
the faithful show up for the national rally every year. There's almost never any vendors
at these rallies, mostly cuz the guys are out riding all day instead of buying farkles.
At night, there's a whole lot of standing in the parking lot drinking beer and telling
lies. Good quality lies.
If you find a local chapter of HSTA members near you it is well worth your time to
join them for breakfast or a lunch ride or whatever.
I've been a member since about '97 or so, along with my son. We've been to national
rallies in Marietta, Oh. , Hot Springs, Ark., Avon, Co.,Charleston,WVa., Pa., and several
of the regional rallies. I've missed the last two nationals, am gonna miss this
years too damnit.
These guys are about riding. Not what brand you own. Not posing. Hard core riding.
It's money well spent.
