New cam chain for K1200GT

$3000 is the cost of a dealer supplied and fitted new cam chain for a K1200GT (2006) (in Aus).
I can buy everything needed- new chain, cogs, sliders, etc- from BMW Sierra for under $500, including a couple of essential special tools. It'll take me a day, possibly two (not as fast as I once was) to do, but first I am looking for comments from anybody "out there" who has experience of the quality (material and specs) of those rather important non-oem parts specifically and Sierra (USA) stuff generally.

As you know, cam chain and guides are a critical important engine part and failure in components or fitting could grenade your bike and write it off - (how much would that cost you?).

It would be a brave member who would recommend these parts as non-oem. They would have to have had them installed for at least 60k miles without failure to post any kind of credible answer and most would want to know the source manufacturer for additional research. You don't want something mass produced in a Chinese sweat shop!

Sometimes when high risks are involved, you alone have to weigh up the risks against the possible outcomes good and bad and make your own decision. Afterwards it can help others if you took a risk and can then post up what you did and what length of service you got without failure. That for me would still not be a recommend but adds another bit of data to the risk evaluation.

If you want to save money and reduce the risk, why not buy genuine parts in BMW packaging with their part numbers and fit them yourself?
