VersaHaul carriers or the like...

New to BMWs and their heaver than sportbike weight, I was wondering if anyone has used a carrier such as the VersaHaul to transport their bike?
I currently have a KR which is below the 600 pound weight limit of this carrier.
It would be married to a class IV hitch rated to carry 1000lbs.

Also, since the KR has heated grips, I am assuming that using the bars as a tiedown point is out of the question?

In the past when securing bikes, I always made sure the forks were compressed to lock the bike down in place. Since the KR (and many new BMWs) have no forks, what is the best way to secure them in a carrier, or even in the bed of a truck?

Not so much having the heated grips, but just putting that much tension on the bars and hoping they don't bend...

Can you anchor the wheels instead? That way, regardless if the sprung weight bounces, it's not going anywhere with the wheels secure. Having the bike move on it's susension shouldn't be an's what the suspension is there for.

Versa Hauler

I have one of these sitting in my garage. I got it to haul my Kawasaki 650 KLR on the back of my Xterra. I only used it twice but it worked just fine. I sold the KLR and now it sits there waiting for me to do something with it.

Its well made and its weight limit is really more a factor of the vehicle its hooked to. My little Xterra is not quite up to the heft of my K1200GT (which is a bit much for this set-up anyway).

Anyone one a like-new Versa Hauler let me know.
