ECU Motronic just replaced at Bob's

Hello, all. I went to Bob's BMW to have a tire changed. While they had it in the shop I asked the Technician to check my bike (2004 KGT) for symptoms of having a bad ECU Motronic. I knew the bike showed the classic symptoms (poor idle, hesitation, etc) I just wanted the Technician to witness it. As most of you know the ECU on certain serial numbered bikes was recalled back in 2005 and the recall ended in December 2005. If you didn't have it fixed by that date you were out of luck. Well, Bob's didn't even question it. They said, if the bike is under warranty (my is) and it doesn't run correctly then BMW should fix it. So...

...the bike so much more fun to ride now. There is no hesitation when cracking the throttle at all. The gas mileage went from around 40 MPG to about 45 MPG. Great improvement.

ECU replaced

Yeah, Bob's replaced mine without hesitation when I mentioned the hesitation when cold. What a difference!

Engle motors just replaced mine and it's a huge difference. They did a great job. No hassles on my end at all. They dealt with BMW and got it fixed right.

Just for clarification, at least with my experience, the cold start issue came back with an upgrade. I originally had the cold-start problem, fussed about it, got the ECU replacement, and put on about 90k miles. Then changed the cam gears and the chip (kit from Rhinewest). Cold start issue came back...disconnected the battery for a few hours (overnight), reconnected the battery, and then the TPS reset (turn key on, don't start, open and close throttle three times, then turn off ignition). Voila! Problem gone.

All this to say that while the ECU may be defective and a cause, it's not always the cause. But, I doubt the nice BMW folks believed it would always fix a customer issue, and if it hadn't, more wailing and gnashing of teeth would have followed.
