Unhappy Stranded - Bike Won't Start

An unexpected ending to today's ride -

'03 K12GT w/ 44K miles. Pulled into the gas station, filled-up, went to start. Dash lights and sounds seemed normal, however only a dull thunk sound coming from deep in the GT when I hit the starter.

Played with side stand, kill switch, neutral, etc. - no joy.

Called tow truck. Fortunately I got a guy who knew what he was doing as far as transporting a bike, and now it's at the dealer.

Tried it again at the dealer - it started! Some intermittent heat related thing? Any ideas from the collective?

Thanks!

PS - RV Roadhelp was good!

What about a push start? Was that an option?

Okay, took a look.

The admin is right - use of a higher gear like 3rd or above does the trick. Once the engine spins to life, quickly squeeze the clutch and you're in business. One thing I should mention, I haven't push-started the K yet, but I did it twice to the Maggie.
