Cool Mileage

Ok so the Gt/RS has been in our hands for a few years now . This is just to see how many miles you have on your GT . Not the second generation but the first gen.
My 03 Gt I have had since 04 now sits at 80K and in 4 months my longest trip will be here and it is Portland,Or. to Key West ( R/T) so by mid summer I expect to go over 100K.
So ahve you been riding the trusty stead or just waxing it?

When I had it, I rode it and rode it long and hard. 24k or so in the year I owned it. Now riding K1200R sport, like it and miss the heavy beast.

That bike....man, what a ride. Power on demand and long distance comfort! So many great memories on that bike.

Enjoy it as long as you can!

I have an '03 which I purchased with 2,065 miles on it in spring 2006. The first year showed 13k and the second year 32k. The bike was in the 'shop' for a couple of weeks last summer due to a clutch slave cylinder failure. It's nice to hear the reports of the higher mileage being recorded on some of the bikes.
Can't wait for spring to get to the Northeast US so I can get back out there!

Purchased late Feb 2004

Picked the GT up new at Deming, NM and have put 89K to date. Had the ECU replaced under warranty, and had a cracked Quick Disconnect replaced free by dealer just out of warranty (41K miles). Only problem has been keeping her in tires....they last between 3000 to max of 7000 miles.

Talking

That seems to be about right on the tires, but I can get a max of about 8k out of the rear and a little more out of the front maybe as much as 12k. I'm running Metzlers, and they seem to have a good balance of grip and wear.
I've also had the ECU replaced and I believe there was a recall on the QC's that was already performed. The clutch slave was out of warranty, but that was the only unusual item I have had. Normal BMW suggested service items, brakes and tires. The valves were adjusted for the first time this year as they finally went out of tolerance.
Almost time for a new wind screen and the paint on the panniers is getting a little banged up from road debris.
Big trip for me was last year from New Hampshire to Florida. Most of the rest of the mileage has been by-ways and highways of New England.
The bike has PIAA 1100's, bar-backs, lowered pegs, Cruise Control, Stealth backrest and a Zumo GPS... Besides all of the standard niceties....
I find that I can do about 750 miles a day on this bike without too much effort which makes the interstate miles fly by pretty quick, just wish it had a bigger fuel tank!

Got a few miles...

106,658 as of this afternoon.
Slave cylinder, which I believe took out the rear engine seal...failed some time after that.
Rear pinion seal
QD
Fuel pump
On the third heated seat
Tires generally are good for 10k rear, 12k front.
Four sets of rear pads, one rotor
One set of front pads at 85k
2833 gallons of gas

Nice Razel! I noticed that you have also had the slave fail on your bike. Do you remember the mileage on that? Was it within warranty? Also, you are getting better mileage out of your tires than I am. Which ones are you using?

Mileage on the slave cylinder was under 36k. Don't have the maintenance spreadsheet with me right now, but I'll confirm it when I'm home. It was covered under the 3 Year/36k mile BMW warranty, but the engine seal was covered under the extended warranty.

I've been using Metzeler Z6's ("C" and non-"C" version) and Metzeler M3's. I get 6k out of the M3's. 10k out of the non-"C" version and 12k out of the "C" version. But, I've only had one of the "C" version (recommended for K1200GT's and Yamaha FJR1300's). Pirelli Corsa Strada's were good for 11k, but from what I understand, they're built pretty much the same way as the Z6's.

Oh, and California roads. Don't really know if that makes a difference, but that may be part of the equation. I also don't do many wot accellerations, either.

My slave went out at about 21k, right after I returned from riding it to Florida from NH with my daughter on the back. Guess I can't complain about the timing... This seems to be a rather common occurrence on the Classic GT's anyway. I had them change out the engine seal as well since it was opened up and probably contaminated. Mine occurred outside of the 3yr 36k warranty and my supplemental from a third party carrier didn't cover it. Ouch!!

I've been running the Z6's also ever since I got rid of the stock 20's. I just had the SPEC II service completed and they just told me it's going to need tires and brakes as well. Better to get it done before the season starts up again I guess.

I estimate my fuel economy at around 37 mpg at 'normal' highway speeds of 75 mph. This seems to go down quite a bit when you get on it. I can get as high as 45 mpg if I maintain 65 mph.

Here in the Northeast US I can only ride from March - December but I hope to make up for it this year.

mileage

The only problem I have encountered on My GT is stock seat heater, output shaft seal, 2-3 headlight bulbs. I don't even use the heated seat , the Sergant is way to comfortable to remove.I used Z6 tires initially but at 3K miles I was going broke. I now have a M3 mtez on the rear and have a new one for front when it is ready. My ordeal tire set up is Z6 on front and the Avon on rear . I get much better mileage out of the Avon but for front I don't care for it .My mpg has dropped in the last year too. I thinkk the gas is cheaper and my MPG has gone from 40 down to 35 -or so . I ride it as I always have so I contributr it to cheap gas!
