Sorry for the stupid question, I am trying to find the VIN but no success so far. BTW: Where can I find the engine number?
Thanks

The VIN# is stamped on a tag, located on the left side under the seat. The engine # is on the right side of the engine sump. It is stamped vertically at the junction of the engine/bellhousing.

You didn't say which model bike. On the '04GT the VIN is located on a tag or plate, underneath the right footpeg. Easier to see with the bike on the sidestand and you on your knees.

This might border on the silly side, but the registration paper from the state motor vehicle department probably lists ths VIN on it. Should be much easier to find...

You're right, much easier to find and it *should* match. I've helped with tech inspection for some competitive events tho, and you'd be surprised how many people have DMV or insurance paperwork with VIN info that doesn't match the actual numbers on the bike. You know how it goes, someone at the dealership has to type it on the paperwork, someone at DMV has to type it on the paperwork, ditto the insurance, and so on.

I use my registration paperwork to lookup VIN numbers all the time *but* I have verified at least once that it matches what's on the bike. Don't want any rude surprises crossing into Mexico or Canada..... or after a fender-bender!

Looks like there are many answers. The VIN on my 2005 K1200S is on the interior side of the right frame part. It is hard to see but it is that stripe. I have yet to find the engine number
