Cool Cold Ride

Left house this morning temperature was 19 degrees. Had to use a blow dryer to heat my ignition so key would turn. The gear selector read out on dash panel told me I was in 1st or 0 gear all way to work.
My commute is 35 miles each way . What's the lowest temp. to ride and when is one insane to ride .
I tried yesterday to ride but again my key was frozen , acquired some smarts and came up with blow fryer idea.

It's only 15 miles to work each way, so its not too bad until it gets to single digits. Somewhere around 7 degrees I start to ask myself if I'm still having fun.

Sierra Cement: Good for skis, bad for knees.

Agreed, but it's not the cold that bothers me. I shut it down for the snow and ice, and the imminent salt on the roads. That stuff will eat your bike.

Cool cold ride

I agree on the ice and sand. Out here in NW they use rock on the roads and sometimes it is worse that the ice itself.
Barnburner I see you are in Ks. I grew up in Ks. I was motivated early in life to get out of that hell bent weather no matter if it was the frigid winter or the unbearable heat/humidity of the simmer.
I have a ride this spring Or. to the Keyes and back through Ks. for family/friends visiting.
here today it is snow or perhaps a bit of sleet mixed in . Seems the winters here are becoming more like those in Ks.

Look me up when you pass through. I would love to talk shop with another Beemer. I can hook you up with some AWESOME BBQ joints.
