Clutch rattle

I recently purchased a used 2000 K12RS with 12,000 miles on the clock. It runs just fine but I notice a rattle in neutral that goes away when I pull in the clutch lever. I suspect this may be normal but just what is causing the noise?

I bought my 98 new and the bike has always done had the rattle. I assume that it has something to do with the dry clutch. When you disengage the clutch in neutral the engine is no longer spinning the plate and no noise but when you engage the clutch it still engages the shaft to the transmition and believe your hearing the bearing at the front. Why we can hear this I dont no

They all do it and there at least 2 reasons:

1) The 9mm dia Clutch pushrod is long, aligns with the slave bearing and passes through down a 10mm hole in the output shaft. I think it rattles in there, particularly if the slave thrust bearing has a bit of wear.

2) No flywheel and the power drives through an intermediate shaft gear.

I know about 1) because I tried wrapping some ptfe tape around the clutch pushrod before I put it back.

The first 1K miles was quietness itself and no clutch rattle - until the tape wore off, now it sounds like it did before.

rattle

Ride for 3 hours and it goes. Gearbox needs to heat up. You could try a blow torch.

Wow, that is a relief!

I bought my 2001 k1200rs a couple of days ago, and thought something may be wrong, like a throwout bearing was bad...
