fluttering between 3000 and 4000 rpm

I have an '02 K1200RS with 38,135 miles. It started having an intermittent runability issue @ 3000 rpm for the last 1000 miles or so. At times it is hardly noticeable at other times it picks up a terrible misfire but clears up after 4000 rpm. I haven't looked at the spark plugs yet (which I will change when I do a full service next weekend) but it seems like a sensor maybe messing up. I replaced the 02 sensor @ 31,000 miles the bike had no runability issue at that time but my mileage dropped to around 24mpg. Mileage went right back up with new 02 sensor. I haven't seen a post on here with the same problem I'm having this time but I hope someone has seen this and can point me in the right direction. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
jays

You haven't said what you have done to it for maintenance, so I would replace the plugs, air filter and fuel filter first and leave the sensors alone.
Take an ohm reading on the plug wires also. A reading of 6.5K-7K ohms is good.

I had the same problem with a 2000 KLT I had a few years back and on a whime, ran fuel injector cleaner and it cleared it up in less than half a tank. I've used it ever since and currently use the Lucas cleaner on my '02 KRS. I add some every three tanks or so. Give it a try if you never have.
