2003 K1200 Fuel Filter Change?

When changing the fuel filter, there is a large black plastic nut or cap. Looks like it is hard to get a grip on, and easy to break. It holds the fuel pump assemble into the tank. How is it removed, what tool did you use? How can I how know I have the torque right when reinstalling it?

I use a rubber strap wrench, available as a two-tool strap wrench kit at Harbor Freight or other low-buck tool joints.

When changing the filter, mark the fuel pump base plate in relationship to the fuel tank. That way you will know if it tries to twist when you tighten the big nut.
Use a new gasket when changing the filter(cheap leak insurance) and pull the big nut "snug".

Monster pair of channel locks works too. I also replaced my gasket. Replacing the fuel filter is not as hard as it initially looks.
