New Guy New Bike (Pic) Valve Question

Hey -

New guy here.

I just bought a 2001 Taxi, see pic below.

So what's the real deal with valves on these bikes? I've been to both extremes: Harley with no adjustment and Ducati with frequent adjustment. I was reading another post here where someone said their RS didn't really need a valve adjustment until 70000+ miles. I'm hoping the K is more like the Harley. Maybe I'm just wishful thinking, but I was really hoping to just keep the fluids fresh, change the filters every now and again, and ride the crap out of this thing.

What say ye?

i checked valves at 12k, 24k, and 40k on my own '04kgt. valves were all in spec. with this in mind, i wont even look again till 75k or so. more important is air and fuel filter. have fun.

You have to remember that a valve "check" is a long way from a valve "adjustment" on these bikes.

My '98 needed one valve adjusted at 84K miles.

I figure I'll need to check again in a few more years.

Your bike looks great! The Taxi never did much for me, but now...I must say...sweeeet.
I hope to make it up your way soon and I will be looking for the "Tropic Cab".
Thanks - FlagRS

Good lord that is a gorgeous bike. Its the 1st time I have noticed the gray color above the checker pattern and the yellow below. And I thought my color scheme was pretty!
