is a RS a GT

Hi guys, I know this is most probably a rookie question, but I am a rookie as this is my first BMW. I am looking for a service manual for my '03 k1200gt and all I can find are RS manuals. I suspect that the engines are the same, or at least similar to the GT. Am I correct? Or am I just looking in the wrong place? Any help is welcome.
Cheers

Hi,
As far as I know the engines are the same in each model.
Hope this helps. Have you tried searching munich motorcycles site or one of the other many BMW shops around the country.

Cheers

I owned an '04GT. Purchased it new.
Had to settle for the BMW RS Repair Manual on CD.
As far as I'm aware, BMW never offered a manual on CD for the '03-'04GT.
Never seen one advertised anyway.

Think it's fair to say that they, '03-'04 RS and GT are mechanically (engine, trans, brakes, final drive) identical.

books

Lent my ride mate the manual for my RS as he had no books. He bought the cd and said it was not worth a pinch of blue mouldy pig shit. He has the same model in a GT, same thing.

They're the same motorcycle. The GT (2003) was initially an RS with $2000.00 worth of RS options added on as standard equipment for $1000.00 more.

Only thing that I'm aware of that can drive you nuts is changing the headlamp bulb out on the GT with the RS instructions. Almost all of the RS's came with a manually adjusted windscreen, while the GT came with an electric windscreen adjustment. The control arm and the motor added to the GT makes getting the bulb out from behind a piece of work Houdini would be cursing at. (Ya take off the plastics until you can get to the headlamp assembly and remove it for the GT).
Difference it time between changing bulbs with the RS (10 minutes) and the GT(25 minutes) isn't that bad.

RS options that were standard on the 2003 GT:
  • Heated seat
  • Cruise Control
  • Sidecases (covers matched the paint of the rest of the bike panels)
  • Electrically adjustible windscreen
  • Hand guards
  • Fairing extensions
Painted lids for the side cases weren't available for the RS even as an option from the factory. If you got side cases, they were black (so technically, I guess you could get them to match your RS if you ordered black...)

RS and GT faring compatability

Do the faring pieces from the GT fit on a 98 RS? Especially the pieces that extend from the turn signal area.

I have been searching all over this forum for the last few days trying to find the answer.

thanks!
