98 K1200RS Fuse Block

I recently had a mishap on my bike and the flashers wouldn't turn off...
My friend not using his brain, decided to yank all the fuses out from under the seat.
Problem is he didn't write down where the fuses went and replaced them without a care.
Does anyone have a picture or diagram show the correct placement of the fuses?

would be highly appreciated since I dont feel like melting any wires in my harness !!!

Your friend is a dumbo and should not be let anywhere near such a complex fly-by-wire BMW motorcycle.

Note the position of the front seat bar, which is shown on the right of the attached fusebox layout.

Slightly frustrated and confused

The 98 Krs I've just aquired came with a riders manual. The fuse box layout shows two boxes, each containing 8 fuses, making 16 in total for the system. When I removed the seat on my bike, there were two boxes as per the illustration but, only 4 fuses in each box, and one them not allocated on the r/h box!

So I checked out my bike on the BMW parts and technical web site to find out it's actually classied as being built in 97 but first registered in 98.

Armed with this info, I visited two prestigious BMW Motorad dealers, to be told by both of them that the book is right, and that someone must have modified the bike at some time, for some obscure reason. (I'll name names, Pidcocks in Nottingham and Rainbow in Rotherham).

Further up this thread however in an illustation and allocation of my set-up, kindly sent in by Mr. Vox.


So, my first dealings with the Dealers does not instill in me any confidence. If anybody can provide me with the serial number of the publication from which the illustration was taken from, I can try and get one from BMW.

The fuses in my fuse boxes are either 4 amp or 15 amp with an "Optional extra" free, rated for 15 amp. Bearing in mind the book I have been provided shows 18 fuses, my question is are there any other locations on the bike where I might find further fuses and / or relays ect ?

Any help would really be apreciated.

You are new to a very complex motorcycle.

Go get a Clymer manual from Motobins or off Amazon. There are a couple of errors in their wiring diagrams, but most of what you want is there. Now the Clymer manual is published by our USA friends, but if you are used to the poor print copy you get on UK Haynes manuals from Halfords, you will be impressed by this one.

My K1200RS is a '97. I'd be surprised if the books are still available. But I have:

1. Service and Technical Booklet: Order No. 01 41 9 799 631
2. Riders Manual: Order No. 01 41 9 799 621

I only use them as quick look up for fuses, bulb types, wattages and tires/pressures. Also they are handy for working out the instrument and ABS warnings. But all this is in Clymer and I would go for that.

You will see from my post that some fuses are for options. These may have been removed if you don't have them fitted. Personally, I keep them there because I always know there's a fuse or two I can rob in an emergency.
