Oberon touring pegs

Has anyone tried installing the front and rear Oberon kits for the classic K1200GT? I am having issues with the rear pegs. It appears the washers included with the kit are used as spacers on the side of the mount opposite the side with the hole for the spring/ball bearing/ístopperí. If that is correct, how doe one get it all in place? The spring has very little give and/or the bearing is a tick too big for the hole. It goes in without the washer, but looks uncentered.

Second question: does anyone have a recommendation for removing scratches from the silver colored mount for the rear pegs? I sorta messed it up trying to remove a still rusted in place pin for the left rear peg. So far tried Liquid Wrench, hacksaw, screw extractor, currently soaking overnight in solvent. What a PITA. (Lest you think I'm a bit off, both front and the other rear peg came off exactly as they should).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

In case there is any interest: The problem is the size of the bore on the Oberon mount. It is apparently sized for a 6 mm bearing, but for some reason BMW used a 1/4" non metric bearing. End result is the stock bearing is too big to depress the spring far enough to make everything fit. Ordered metric bearings, should solve the problem. Hope to take a ride to test out the new pegs, but there's a big snowstorm in the forcast.
