Cool Replacememt Mirrors for '99 K1200 RS

The mickey mouse ears OEM mirrors from the ingenius design engineers at the Break My Wallet Mottorad division give limited visability and look horrible.

Any suggestions on either aftermarket or other year K bike mirrors that will mount into the existing threads on the handlebars? I want a rectangle or squarish mirror for maximum visability. I don't want to start drilling holes and putting fairing mounted mirrors on.

Thanks, Gents!

I have the later oval KGT mirrors on my '97 KRS. Good point is they are a direct fit, have ABS arm and housing so don't rust. Bad point is with bar risers they are lighter than the 'dots' and you may get a bit more vibration. Oh, and they just touch the screen on full lock.

Visibility is better. With these bikes you need to see what is behind you.

I switched out from the mickey mouse to the RS style and cant see a damn thing.they vibrate just enough that you can not make out what car make is behind you unless they are right up close. The mm mirrors were a little ugly but they performed very very very well.

The GT mirrors are stable and bigger. Two thumbs up!

Not all who wander are lost. Which still leaves room for more than a few lost wanderers...

You did not kill most of the vibes with my oval mirror modification then? It is simple and here somewhere.

I can see with mine.

Will the oval mirrors on the '00 K RS fit on my '99 RS?

Smile Worked like a charm

I installed the GT type oval squarish mirrors and they fit perfectly. Ordered new ones from Max BMW-- a bit pricey at $188 delivered but they look like they fit the bike unlike the OEM dots that the design engineers slapped on as an afterthought. Better visibility and no discernible vibration issues.

I know this is an old thread but does anyone have the P#?

Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous.
It is however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence or stupidity.

BMW part numbers for these rectangular OEM mirrors from the K1200RS (2002-2005):
LEFT: 51 16 7 653 773
RIGHT: 51 16 7 653 774

Parts fiche with $US$ prices on MAX-BMW web site:
http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fic...er=51167653773

If your bike has the original "mickey-mouse" ear mirror from K1200GT (2003-2005), the special long / hollow NUT to hold mirror (from under) is the same for both types. Otherwise, you may need to spend an extra $9 for each nut - ouch!

IMPORTANT:
Be aware that these rectangular mirrors may hit the windshield in certain position (handlebar or windshield position). I believe this was the main reasons (other than cost cutting) than BMW changed the mirrors to round ones when K1200GT (2003-2005) came out: the K1200GT has different / higher handlebars holders.
