2003 K1200GT ABS Pump Needed

My beloved GT has finally started showing some of the symptoms that I have only read about up until now. The rear circuit began going into fault, with the fault indicated by my BMW shop as rear circuit pressure too high.

The bike had been sitting for a long period of time due to problems sourcing some parts after an encounter with a pick-up truck and my frequent and extended forays out of the country as part of my job. After the ABS went into fault, I flushed and bled the entire break system until everything was crystal clear, and the fault seemed to disappear. I test rode the bike and all seemed well for a bit, but unfortunately, the fault came back.

I proceeded to reflush and exercise the system as well as I could, and again, all seemed good. I test rode the bike and found some gravel and panic stopped with front brake only, rear brake only, and then both together will perfect results. Patting myself on the back, I went for a longer ride, only to have the fault reappear.

I can make the fault clear sometimes by simply turning the ignition off, and then back on again, other times by firmly squeezing the front brake lever and pushing the rear with the ignition off, but the problem seems to reoccur after a few miles. It almost seems like an electrical or control board problem.

I have lost confidence in the existing unit, and am searching for a good used pump or a dealer that has a new one in stock. Although reluctant, I am willing to pay the price for a new one if I can get it quickly as I have a long ride coming up with the local BMW club.

Anyone that has a line on a good used unit or knows of a dealer stocking one, please ping me.

Thanks in advance!

ABS pump

Sounds like you've exhausted a lot of possibilities.

MAKE SURE you're battery voltage is up. 6 years ago, my '02 was diagnosed by the dealer as needing a new pump. New quality Odyssey battery solved that problem.

Also make a mental note of when this happens. Such as in heavy traffic at low revs, or other times when the battery is not being "charged".
