Electrical question K1200RS

Hope this isn't too dumb a question, but on my 2003 K1200RS, the instrument panel lights are dim in the area of the clock and gear indicator. I am curious as to whether this is intentional on BMW's part, so as not top be distracting. Since the daylight has gotten shorter around here, I've been having a harder time reading those.
Is there a panel light intensity control hidden somewhere, or should I look into bulb replacement? My Clymer shop manual is a tad sketchy on bulb specifics.
Thanks in advance

IIRC-there is a bank of wee bulbs behind the instrument panel. Some have changed them to led's. Also, your inst panel back lighting is controled by a light sensor. Try using the search function for " instrument panel lights"

Thanks for that. I'll make the bulbs one of my winter projects.
Nice license plate frame - where can I get one?

Int'l Auto Show over here in San Francisco. Vender section where they were making custom license plates frames-also for MC plate frames-anything u want said. Most Car shows across country have these vendors. Or-the internet.

The bulbs are probably the oem items. Over time they start to blacken and loose their intensity. Replacing them will restore normal function

Exactly, the bulbs need replacing. On our RS/GT bricks, there is no sensor for the lights. They are on when the bike is on, so they may not last as long as later model bikes. I am on my second or third round with the bulbs in the dash....

I would replace most of mine with leds if I could find a well made led lamp that was directly compatible with the rubber socket, had a long life and good white color qualities.

I had a few samples of wedge leds from China using smd chips, but they overan them so hard, ignored cooling in the design and predictably they popped after a week of continuous running on test.
