1998 KRS Restoration

Hi folks,

I have '98 KRS that has sat for over 5 years, and I'm going to attempt to restore it.

All I know so far is that it was in perfect running condition last time it ran. The battery is dead, the front brake reservoir leaked a little onto the paint (and now pulls almost all the way to the grip before braking), and the worst is that the fuel has gelled in the tank.

I was hoping that someone might be able to point me in the direction of some resources I could read to start getting an understanding of what I'm going to have to do.

I'm thinking that at a minimum, I'll probably want to replace the tank rather than try to deal with the time and chemicals needed to clean out the existing one.

I'm thinking the front brake is the way it is because air got in the line.

What about the fuel injectors and engine (oil)?

Thanks... I appreciate any info.

/greg

You'll be replacing all the brake lines with a Spiegler kit (or similar) for starters...

sounds like a fun job...

edit: noticed same thread running in I-BMW.... some good info there

So, I'm finding it difficult to make the time to work on my bike, but I'll keep whittling away at it until it's done. :-)

Simple question... Is the tank a painted component? Or is it completely covered by the fairing and the top piece? In other words, if I were to find a used tank, do I have to worry about the color?

Thanks!

Tank is black plastic, covered by body panels.

Cleaning the tank is no big deal I would however get someone to do a high pressure fuel system and injector cleaning process. along with new rubber fuel hoses and quick connects.
