Total miles doesn't match odo

My K1200RS went to the dealer for a TPS issue. I have the computer results. Tucked in the basic bike stats. Total miles: 110831 or 68K+ but the odo shows 42K. What is going on here???

Also, although the bike was sold as an '03, the build date was 10/02. :scratch

OK, sanity returns. Almost. I found an earlier computer test which lists the mileage and kilometers. They coincide (40754 | 65569).

The latest run, however, is off by 45262 km (28062 mi). The VIN's on the reports match the actual VIN. It now seems to be a computer error. NTL, the discrepancy is unsettling.

VIN dates are the factory build dates (in Germany for K bikes)... nothing to do with when they are registered for sale....
My K1200GT is a build date 06/2004, yet was first sold/registered as a 2006 model (should have been a 2005), likewise with the LT, 04/2004 build, sold as an '05 model in Sept 2005. It had sat in a warehouse for 17 months before I got it "new".

I'm finding that out. I have no idea when the PO bought the bike but I'd expect it to be in the spring of '03.

The ECU calculated mileage is usually based on the injection strokes and is rarely the same as the odo - but not so far out as yours. Do you know if the ECU has been replaced or re-chipped? Since I replaced my ECU a while back and put in the latest chip I haven't gone back to check the ECU mileage which is probably way out. Calculated ECU mileage is normally stored in the ECU not in the chip to make it more difficult to change. If I sell my bike with the original ECU, it will now appear to have done less mileage than on the odo! Once a bike gets to 100k miles in real terms I wouldn't worry, because how it has been looked after and serviced becomes far more important than mileage and none of that is in the ECU. Visual inspection, hearing and a ride test tells you a lot more.

The ECU is AFAIK the one that came with the bike, with no chip changes.
