Buzz, No Buzz 102K miles
Ok all, I have no more buzz in the mirrors or handles. I always had some between 4k and 5k RPM. So what did I do? I have 102K miles on the bike, the front case had never been opened, and the valves were checked only at the 12K service.
I decided it was time to take her in and have the valves checked and adjusted, have a new cam chain, chain guides, and cam chain tensioner installed. I have been using synthetic oil since around 20K miles, I am an AMSOIL fan.
So here is what was found: only one exhaust valve, number one cylider, was slightly tight. The valve was tight by only a couple of thousandths, just enough to make the feeler gauge drag. All other valves were "A OK". The cam chain had some stretch, I expected some, the cam chain guides (manual says replace every 30K) had some wear. The guides were not wore out, but you could see some wear marks. I had some chain noise, not a lot, so I had the tensioner replaced since we were in there.
Dooods, this is real good news, synthetic is the way to go. Really only one valve needed adjustment after 102K miles!
Now the engine feels tight, has great pull, and NO MORE BUZZ.
