Exclamation Tranny front cover seal

Last year at 83K miles I had my rear main oil seal go out and make a mess of the clutch and all. I paid some big bucks for the job. Replaced rear main, o-rings, all clutch parts, slave cylinder, and tranny input shaft seal. Get 'er all done since the tranny had to be pulled, right.

Well dang!!! When I took my bike in at 102K miles, see Buzz, No Buzz thread, I had some suspicious oil leaking around the tranny bell housing seam. Well DANG NABIT!!

On the front of the tranny there is a cover, this is where the tranny input shaft and seal are. This dang cover had no gasket, just sealer. It LEAKED, Arrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhh.
I lucked out as it was caught in time so as not to contaminate the clutch.

So those who have not had the tranny pulled, new clutch, and all the other goodies, make sure that front cover gets looked at when you get the big job done.

Now for my next 100k miles.

AFAIK there is no gasket. There wasn't one when I took my tranny apart, and that's how I reassembled it - Permatex Ultra-Blue only. I'm pretty sure that's the way the service manual describes it as well. Sounds like yours didn't get sealed up properly by the Tech.

Yep, sealer is the way it comes. I am not sure if the cover was removed when they changed out the input shaft seal. All good now, I should be ok for at least another 100K miles.
