Play in throttle handle

Throttle handle/grip has a slight amount of movement.

The play is perpendicular to the axis of rotation.

Normal??

If you mean there's 'slack' or 'free play' for a few degrees of twist (about an 1/8" of cable). That's normal.

If you've got the bars hard round on the steering lock when starting, the ECU doesn't get the correct mechanical zero setting reference if the cable inner wire is under tension.

No.

The play is not with twisting the throttle.

The play is perpendicular to the axis of rotation.

For example, back and forth and also up and down.

Yes, I would say that is normal...are you worried about something?
I would think the up/down play would be necessary for rotation. The back/forth play I've also had on all my bikes.

Was over at a friends house yesterday. Two Ducati's (street), Yamaha R6 (track), Suzuki GSXR 1000 (I think...1 liter track bike)All had movement perpendicular to the axis of rotation. The R6 had the least.

BTW, folks, I added the poll, not Larry...hence the smart-ass option #4 (which I voted for, but now that others have voted the same I don't mind letting folks know)
