Advice on used K1200

Hi to everyone on the forum!

I've been contemplating a new (to me) bike to replace an aging '85 Interceptor vf700, and have just decided to move forward. Previously I've owned a BMW 328i which was incredibly solid performer and feel the same would apply to BMW's bikes.

Locally, there is an '02 K1200RS w/ 36k miles that seems to be VERY clean. Having not been exposed to these bikes before, what items should be noted upon inspection and are there any known issues to be addressed?

Thanks in advance for your help and input! emc

Howdy emc-

Do a search- there's many previous threads covering this topic.
In general, I love my K12 & would highly recommend it to anyone! Very solid, reliable, comfortable, fast as h#ll, & it WILL corner

I have a 98 K1200rs and it's great, spent 30 years on sports bikes now on my first BMW, it cruises, it scratches, it is easily capable of track days and I love it. :yeah

I would ask the owner for the service records. I think it's common for the seals to leak before the warranty expires. That would leave oil in your belly pan. When it happened to mine at 16K, the dealer pointed it out to me. It's a costly repair ($1200 US) if not done under warranty. Other than that, it really is a great bike.
