04' GT Warranty work report

I noticed a bit of oil on the inside of the bellypan on my still under warranty 04' GT (9K miles). I purchased the bike in Oct 06 with 1800 miles on the odo.

I determined from the odor of the oil it was from the transmission. I made arrangements with the dealership for the repair to be performed in conjunction with the 12K service.

The bike had 11.2K miles on it when I dropped it off for repair. The warranty repairs were as follows:

Leaking trans front input, leaking clutch slave, leaking rear main seal, replace fuel gauge sending unit, and the clutch disk.

Labor was $678. Parts, taxes,... for a total of $1222 covered under warranty.

BMW Motorad contacted me by telephone yesterday for a customer satisfaction survey.
I expressed I was happy with the repair and the dealership. I also explained that I considered the leaking slave cylinder to be a design defect and their were too many failures of this type on the GT. I told the BMW rep. that "if the problem reoccurred, the bike is gone".

The Rep. said he was annotating my concerns and asked if BMW could contact me again concerning my thoughts on the GT? I agreed they could.

I like BMW motorcycles and told the Rep. as much.

(As a side note, the 12K service with brake flush and anti-freeze change was $742.)

Good for you. Doubt that BMW will followup on this issue. They must have a fairly substantial (significant) stack of paperwork from folks that got leaks corrected under warranty. Good news is that the dealerships performing the repairs should all be experts at performing the repair at this point (though not all dealerships can retain their staff with this expertise).

Repairs to my bike (03 K1200RS) have made me a bit apprehensive at first, but after the first few hundred, then thousand miles, I don't worry any longer. Still check for signs of weeping, but just routine checks of systems overall.

Ride the heck out of it and enjoy it.
