GT Clutch - Early Model

I'm looking to buy a 03 or 04 GT. Heard a rumor that the clutch in the early release of the GT were not strong enough. Anyone know if that is true or not?

It was the early RS' clutches that were marginal. I had to replace the clutch
on my '98 at 69K miles. BMW started beefing up the clutches in '99 or '00,
you should be plenty fine.

Thanks Shook. Well my 98 RS is getting ready for some major work @ 45k. Clutch didn't go but gearbox/trans seals did. Most likely the tech will replace the clutch anyway. It's been a great ride for 9 years so I'm not complaining. Going to celebrate the refresh and ride another several thousand.

45K seems to be a magic number for the gearbox/trans seal to go, just did mine last month. Had no clutch slip just an oil seep from the join under the clutch. ( The one with no gasket. ) Replaced the clutch anyways as it was worn and oil contaminated. Biggest headache was the roller bearings where the bevel box joins the shaft. They were siezed stupid. Ended up cutting the pin.
Done another 2K since with no problems.
