So where does the heat go?

Looking at the picture of the new K1200GT, my first thought was ... where does the heat go? There does not seem to be any 'exit points' as per the current fairing shape as you can see from the photo's. Some contemporary bikes (eg Yamaha FJR1300 and Honda ST1300) which also have full fairings have known heat problems, particularly the FJR. This could be a major problem for people who live in warmer climates. One of the main reasons I bought my 03 K12GT was because of its excellent heat management.

Out the bottom, like the K1200S.

Chestnuts roasting .......

I made the same observation on www.bmwhp.org . "Take a close look at the fairing. Now, stop thinking Concours and start thinking, "Where does all the heat go?" My guess is that BMW should have talked to Yamaha (or a prior K1100RS owner). We have side by side pics of the FJR and Connie with the new GT at k-bikes.com and we're hoping the GT looks better in person."

It sure looks like it will be toasty. My brother and I owned 1985 K100RS' in 1985. In March of 1986 we demo'd the new Kawasaki Concours at Bike Week in Daytona. HOT! You'd think Kawasaki would learn in 20 years. Er, I mean, BMW.

My bet is that a BUNCH of LT people will love this bike. Similar luggage capacity, but 200 pounds less and 35 more ponies.

Bob - I guess we will have to wait and see if the heat goes 'out the bottom' as you say. There just doesn't seem like there would be enough of a gap for all the heat to escape without at least heating up your boots some.

Same as the S, out the bottom. The S has ZERO heat issues, the GT won't either.

Heat management may not be an issue, but I wouldn't discount it so easily. I will agree that it will go "out the bottom". I just don't know what our Florida friends will think about that. Demo time should answer this one, though..

Oh no ..... what is happening? I'm starting to like this thing.
More power. More comfort. More luxury. (making the 999 a better second bike). Hmmmmmmm, now I want a demo.

Bob is exactly right, i don't see why the GT wouldn't
do the same. Damn hot where I live and I checked for heat
with the side panel off and there is NO heat on the side
with the fan going. It pulls air in from the top and vents out the
bottom, and the hole in the right side cowling.

with the fan off, some heat does waft up but I would say
the S is as good as the RS in heat mgmt which is damn good.
