OK To Ride With The Brake Bulb Removed?

Seems like a dumb question but here's the thing. When I last attended a riding school we had to deactivate the brake light which I did on my R100 by just pulling the bulb. However when a friend, riding a 2004 R1150GS, did that problems developed. Riding around w/o the bulb caused his ABS lights to come on signaling the ABS was not functioning. Even after he put the bulb back in they kept flashing. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery didn't help. He had to take to a BMW dealer to have "reset". I don't want that to happen on my 2007, K1200GT. Anyone here ever done this on a new gen K1200? If I have to I guess I could wrap tape all around the brake lens.
