Brake Pad Wear Indicator

How many miles are you guys getting on your brake pads? I ride pretty much like an old lady most of the time, and I just got a red light coming home from work today, with about 9300 on the clock.

21k + so far and hardly worn. I got 50k + a set on my old RT and only changed them to feel better. Lots of highway miles and engine breaking.

On my old RT, I got about 80,000 miles before I replaced pads.

I rarely hit the brakes as once I'm out the door, I had maybe 2 or 3 stops signs before open road. then it's mostly engine braking for me (which sucked really bad at one update, but since changed in subsequent) in the canyons . Not that way now. Too much housing and more stop signs.

The GT is still wearing pretty well at 12K miles with respect to pads - even with the '06 power assist which I've often thought would shorten their life. No pads yet.

Too bad my tires only last 3K though.

Take your bike in and make sure they've done the brake pad sensor fix. There is a service bulletin out on it.

Chuck,

It is probably an incorrectly routed brake pad wear wire that broke, a known assembly defect.

My front one broke at 5700 miles. Inspected visually, there wasn't much wear on any of my brake pads. The dealer fixed the problem under warranty, replacing both sets of front brake pads at the same time.

You guys can now add your yes vote to the brake warning poll. I only know of one person on this site that has worn out his brakes and in his case the brake warning light did not come on and the rear tell tales did not indicate worn pads, despite them being metal to metal, if my memory serves me correctly.

Mine broke at around 6000km and the front pads were replaced under warranty with hardly any wear. Now up to 29,000km and plenty of pad left and no more warning light problems.

OK, I think you guys have convinced me I can ride my bike with the light on with no fear of it self-destructing. Looks like another trip to the dealer. I'm fortunate that the dealership is only about ten miles away from my home.
