Clutch noise/rattle

When I let the clutch out, towards the end of the throw, there is a rattle, almost like a metal on metal vibration noise. Feels/sounds like it's a clutch thing, not a body part rattle. Can't duplicate it any other way. Once the bike is in gear, it's fine. The clutch action is smooth. The dealer says it's fine. Got any ideas? Thanx

The dealer is trying to blow you off... Although I hear the clutch may not fail on you, there is a big complaint about the sound and "feel" of the clutch when letting out into first gear from a stop. Supposedly there is a modified thrust bearing/bushing/washer with oil grooves that may help alleviate none/some/ or all of the problem. Your dealer may not do anything until you complain about the "feel" and not just the sound...

Most dealers will tell you that some noise is normal, and nothing to be concerned about. However, if you have a good dealer and/or really push the issue, some dealers have been replacing the entire clutch pack under warranty to sort this problem.

Note that "excessive noise" doesn't usually count for much, but specifically complaining about clutch "judder" or "jerkiness" when first pulling away will often trigger more aggressive action by the dealer. In fact, I believe that clutch judder is actually called out in the dealer's PUMA database, which gives them authorization to do a proper fix.
