Metal Quick Disconnects

They fit! I pulled the tank today, yanked the plastic quick disconnects and put in the metal ones. Works like a charm and there won't be any breakage there due to heat, vibration and age.

Good news. Mine are on their way.

I hate liquid fuel all over everything, especially while riding.

Grif - are you riding an '07 GT?

And bad design. The manufacturer told me a while back they had never intended for it to be made using plastic for purely mechanical reasons, much less chemical.

Yes I am. But looking across the board at all the new k-bike gas tanks thru the Max BMW fiche they all have the same fuel pump/filter set up.

BTW, y'all don't forget to use teflon tape when installing into the tank.

How could you even think I would have forgot that?

Those are exactly the same quick disconnects we've been using on our semiconductor machines for the last 15 years or so. Threaded mount on one side, 90-degree hose on the other, chrome-plated brass. As long as you don't pinch the o-ring on assembly they'll hold up great. Hmm, I'll have to see if I still have some laying around.

But I gotta ask - is standard "Teflon" tape OK for gasoline? Did the old fitting have tape installed from the factory? Just curious.

And does the knife help at all?

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

OK, I gotta ask. Has this been an issue or are you doing preventative work?
