new EWS installed?

Just had the new EWS installed under warranty. I was going to buy an extra one just to carry for emergencies, and the parts guy said that would be $82. I thought I read somewhere on this forum that the part was about $39. Does anyone really know what I should be paying for this part??

Just called the dealer again. Had him recheck the price. He said $82 was correct. I told him I was looking at the parts fiche, and it showed 36 dollars. He then said he would check BMW's fiche. He came back and said I was right. He thinks that since BMW is doing the recall on it, that they reduced the price. I can get it about 36 dollars now.

Have you had an EWS failure on your old antenna? Do you trust the dealer to do the job right? If not, why let them work on your bike?

Mine has not failed yet, and I didn't want to take any chances that it would fail on my 4500 trip out west in a few days. How long do you think it would take to get a tow truck out to the middle of Wyoming? My dealer has replaced so many of them, that he could probably do it with a blind fold on.
I still plan on carrying a spare with me. Murphy's Law.

I could do it blindfolded and I'm real sure Ken could, too. I reckon that's why I haven't taken the bike in to have it done. Now, if it was already there.....

I carry a spare, too. The only sure way to ensure you won't ever need it.

So I went to the dealer yesterday to do the 600 mile, $200 oil change and the service writer says " no open campaigns on your bike" and isn't it great that we did the EWW ring replacement the day after you bought your bike and it broke down in its fist 150 miles?. Yep, it's great. Will I buy a spare ring, No - as I believe some supplier is in BMW hell for delivering thousands of defective parts. Anyone care to make a list of which critical spare K12GT specific parts they should carry on a long trip. (Like the shifter parts for the LT??)

There's always the El Jeffe tool kit: a cell phone and a credit card.

Do they have to pull the plastic to change the ring. If so, I'm gonna slip a new air filter on while they have the plastic off. Mine is scheduled for the antenna swap next Friday.
Getting ready for a 5k trip out West.

Hey James, it's just the handlebar and the bridge that comes off.

You can always pay them the hour labor for 10 minutes of work on the air filter

Grif,
I just remembered, that I ordered the Warm & Safe liner along with the dual mounted Heat Troller, so I gotta pull the plastic anyway. BTW did you coat the leetle circuit boards with nail polish or dielectric grease per the instructions? I would prefer nail polish, but it seems to me that nail polish would, even after drying, cause problems with a high resistance short.
