Is this related to disconnect the battery at all? Since I disconnected mine to hook up my Powerlet cable whenever I turn the key I get a message at the bottom of the display "Service June 2009".

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Yes, That's the message I'm talking about. It started at 5700 miles saying service in 300 miles. Then at 5900 miles it says 200 mile. Now I have 6000 miles and it just says service 0 miles. I serviced the bike myself, and now I'm trying to get the service message off.

I dunno, but maybe the GS-911 tool would clear the message?

Might want to Google the GS-911 and see if it has been asked on their forum.. I have one and I did clear one error message that popped up, but it had something to do with a start/kickstand fault.

Tool itself isn't too big, about the size of a couple of packs of smokes. I bought the Bluetooth model and my cellphone can run the program and work in conjunction with the tool.

I'd ask your dealer if it is possible to do it without connecting to the GT1 diagnostic computer. Also, if you have a GS-911, I'd inquire from them whether there is a service reset capability.

I had my 6K done at the dealer and they forgot to reset the service indicator. When I called them they said the only way to reset it is for them to connect it to their "computer" and there is no way to do it yourself. Since they are 120 miles away, that's not good news.
So I will ignore it just like I ignore the "miles to empty" display!

Miles to empty display inaccurate??

From previous BMW car experience I know the old reset ool was a glorified way to connect a couple pins together which reset either the oil change or "service due" indicator. I am talking back in the 90s and even 80s, so I imagine it's different now. BUT would be interesting to find out if it's that simple.

The GS-911 will do it

Hi folks-
I just ran into this issue and made an interesting discovery.
I normally use my GS-911 via bluetooth and my DROID. In this mode, there is no menu item to reset the service reminders or the dates they activate.
HOWEVER, using a laptop (instead of the smartphone app) gives you a "special functions" menu in which it is very easy to reset the reminders and set new reminder dates if desired. Just an FYI...
