Dealer says no 1300 motor for 09 GT

My dealer is normally pretty open about giving out upcoming information from the factory. I told him there was some internet rumor that the 09 GT was getting a 1300cc engine.

He said as far as he knew, the engine was not being changed in 09. Anybody know anything more definitive about the changes for 09?

Do you really need MORE power? Or is it just the bigger better faster thing?

I guess it's a great selling point though cause a lot of guys buy this thing and then trade it in cause it's too much bike. I would also say that the vast majority of us, myself included, rarely ride this bike to it's potential.

But hey, a few more HP, a bit more ft lbs O'torque.....cool, I'm in.

No, I really do not crave more power, but am curious as to if the GT will see the 1300cc motor in 09.

Too soon. BMW usually makes a major change every 4th year. Won't be until 2010 if they do anything to the GT.

Hmm, that's funny. A Belgian Beemerrider went to his dealer this week to order a new GT, but heard that production of the current GT will stop soon. His dealer confirmed the upgrade to the 1300 cc engine next spring....

My dealer has also "suggested" that this might be a possibility. That we'd see it in the "S" first, then maybe the "R". Horsepower is king in these categories. Rumor has it at well over 170 hp.

When I hit the rev limiter whilst strafing a sweeper in third gear I was wishing for something. Anything.

Damn! Utah is fun to ride.

Keep in mind that BMW is entering the Superbike series with a new 1300 and they must produce a certain number of these bikes for the public. Those are the ones you'll see first - complete with conventional forks and chain drive. The GT/S/R will probably get the motor later on. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 1300 in a de-tuned fashion show up in LT clothes in a few years.
