The range calculator in the onboard computer seems very nonlinear and inaccurate. You can see your actual fuel mileage by scrolling through the "BC" button screens. My cumulative mileage is now 42mpg after 1300 miles. This matches my estimates based on fillup volumes and trip odometer mileage between fillups.

Gas Mileage

I use the "miles-to-go" indication as a reference point only. It will vary by road inclination and your use of revs and gears. For my 07 with 23K miles the range is between about 42 (twisties)and 51 (freeway with cruisers) mpg. On a trip of a little less than 10K miles last year I averaged 50.3 mpg (calculated, not per the on-board computer) for the entire trip.
I think it also depends on the rider's road attitude and type of tire used. So far these are my tire stats:
1, 2 OEM (2 sets) Bridgestone 020 = 6,032, 6838
3. Metzler Z6 = 3,616
4. Michelin PR2 = 6,015
I liked the Bridgestones, but prefer Michelin (better in wet). The Z6 seemed to be good at the beginning, but went away quickly and was awful in the wet.
Didn't mean to get off on another tangent, but tires are key to the overall mileage issue.
Ride sage and have a great time doing it.

Mine varies, depending on how much city vs. highway that I ride.

I posted a detailed mileage spreadsheet on this thread. See post #40 for the latest:

Lately, I have been recording the average mph and mpg at each fill-up, then I reset them back to zero. BMW is optimistic about their mileage calculations, according to my data.

Seen 33 - 51 mpg depending on wind screen height and wind direction...of course speed has a little effect on the economy as well.

I was getting 49-50 in the mountains around SLC, YellowStone, Lolo pass, but back in the flat lands of Louisiana I get like 42-45mpg.

Must admit it was pretty cool to fillup in the mountains and see over 300miles to go on the computer!

40 to 48 depending on traffic, speed, length of ride. Sunday, I did a 300 miler and got almost 50mpg watching the foliage go by at reasonable speeds. One fillup all day, while most other bikes had to stop 2 or 3 times with their puny tanks.

55, are you kidding me. Going from a R1200RT to the GT I can see speeding ticket before my eyes. This thing lulls you into major speed. You just think accelerate and your doing 100+.
