Oil Analysis anyone?

I've been doing oil analysis on my 06 GT since got it in May 2007. It's pretty cheap and I thought it might be interesting. I've done it maybe every other oil change or so. The results this time are starting to be worrisome. Looks like fuel is getting into the oil and causing wear. Not good. It looks to me like I need to consider a higher viscosity oil that 10/40, or start chainging at 2000 miles instead of 3,000...

Opinions?

That's great info!

BMW oil looks somewhat thin. Even with the previous test's lower gasoline dilution.

Could the wear be coming from the transmission???

Maybe some high rpm runs to seat those rings!!!

It is 6,000. But some folks believe the "Lube It or Lose It" hype. Oil's cheap enough that it's no real bother to change it earlier, even if there's no proven benefit.

Guys-

1. The only thing I've ever put in it is Castrol GPS, NOT the BMW stuff.

2. These analysis reports are from changes at 3,000 intervals. If it's looking bad at 3k, why the #$%#$% would I wait till 6k to change it? Just because something printed in a manual says so? That's why I had these done.

I don't think anyone is criticizing what you've done with your bike.

It's just the report says BMW 10W40. And isn't BMW's recommended oil the Castrol GPS anyway?

And I think the other poster was wondering out loud that the recommended oil change interval was 6000 rather than 3000. Not criticizing, just asking.

Like the kids here say...

It's all good.

I change the oil every 3,000 miles, even though the manual says 6,000. I have a higher percentage of city (stop 'n' go) and relatively short runs than the average GT rider, so it makes sense to me to change the oil more frequently.

An oil change is on this morning's "to do" list. 9,000 miles on my GT.

On a related note, I didn't know that such labs exist. I'll try a sample when I do the 12,000 mile oil change. Thanks, Brahma.

I just thought for a $10000 engine, $22.50 every other, or every 3rd chane for an analysis isn't too bad. This is a common practice for aviation engines...
