GT service light on dash:

The light on my dash has the service light lit for the past several thousand miles. I live in Mesquite Nevada which is 100+ miles from the nearest dealer in Vegas. I called the dealer and they tell me that the bike must be connected to their computer to turn the light off only to come on again after 6000 miles. I do all my own services and I don't need the bike to remind me that it is time to do something and to make it worse pay a dealer to turn it off. And than have the dealer to tell me that services should be done by one of there tech's because I don't know what I am doing or I don't have all the right computers to do the job successfully is "BS". BMW is forcing me to not buy another, this is after 9 bikes in the last 15 years, I know technology marches on and things get more sophisticated. Do you older guys remember when on the older boxer motors we could adjust the valves on the side of the road, change bearings without removing the motor from the frame, sync the carbs in less than 5 minutes, etc. They used to much more user friendly than they are now, what are you do it yourselfer's doing. The light is not going to drive me nuts but I do wish I could disable it all together...... A silly light.

Good question.

I've been waiting two years for them to get the update out to turn off the "Brake Light" error. Of course, I bought the GS-911 to do that back then when it first appeared. Now I'll have to buy another subscription for it to work whenever they do come out with that update.

I don't see what exactly is being described as "the service light" here, but if it is about the brake pads, I've had the Beta for awhile. Thing is, after the (relatively) latest software upgrade on the bike, the light resets itself AFTER new pads are put on. This was NOT true in earlier flashes on the bike.

That is why I bought the GS-911 too- it was my hope and misunderstanding that, at the time, it would reset the pads light. It didn't, but as reported, will soon. I will definately say though, in the meantime, that little thing is worth it's weight in gold, and it is amazing what the thing reads out now, compared to what it did in the beginning (the software upgrades have been free, I don't know what the reference about the "subscription' is about). Now that I have a GS too, I really get my money's worth out of it.

I'm still trying to figure out how to hook it to my 85 K100RT though!

So far, it has been free, but read here:
GS-911 Upgrade Policy

The possibility of $49 per year is mentioned.

We'll have to wait and see what Stephan does about the "Brake Light" reset thing whenever it comes around.
