She Growled at Me

Ok so I picked up my GT at the end of November, and I'm stuck around 500 miles, with the weather this winter has thrown at the Northeast, but today the sun was out, and the snow has melted. 6AM headed out for the Ocean, to put the GT through it's paces a bit. Just about the time I was passing Jones Beach the sun was coming up, and Stevie Ray Vaughn's rendition of Voodo Child was pumping out of the Zumo. Somehow this all effected my right wrist as I blew down Ocean Parkway heading toward the old Oak Beach Inn. Coming off the RT a few observations right off the bat. The RT gets a bit squirrely around 110mph, the GT got steadier in fact rock solid. I know a lot of guys hate the stock exhaust, but for me, coming off a whisper quite RT, the GT sounds magnificent when you get on that throttle. I pulled into Captree State park which has a huge parking lot, and wanted to test out the slow speed fueling on the GT, not sure if all the issues are a warm weather phenomenon only, but happily it was steady at walking speed. Tomorrow it's out to the Hamptons, then Montauk Point. I have yet to take a ride without the snowflake flashing at me but tomorrow may hit 40 that should kill the flake.

Nice ride. Wish I could get my GT out but up here in Vermont I's still not time to get her out. Installing a Stebel horn in her right now. Where are you in New York?

I'm on Long Island, in Nassau County. Might just be me, but Spring seems close. It's going to be a bit colder tomorrow, but I'm going out to the Hamptons, and if it's not too cold onto Montauk from there. Vermont has to wait a bit longer. It even rained here for us last week so while sand is still an issue, salt is almost gone.

Well have a nice ride and be careful of the sand, etc. I don't want to read tomorrow of a "GT DOWN" post. Enjoy.

Lucky you ! I chafed at the bit all last week in the crap weather we were having, so the spouse and I jumped on a flight to South Florida where it is now 83 degrees and no bike. We go home tomoorow evening. I will be able to ride starting Wednesday ( 2 big days at work). Hopefully the weather in the NE will hold. I ride in anything over 40 degrees comfortably with all my heated gear..
I am glad that your bike is running smoothly. 110mph on Long island ??? No usual traffic???

No traffic in the Winter down on the Ocean, especially early in the morning. I passed maybe 4 cars tops on Ocean Parkway, and it's a nice strainght run along the Ocean.

My last bike was a R1200R. I've always liked the R-bikes. After only about 1k miles on the K1200GT I am hooked.

When in doubt, apply more throttle.

Hooked is putting it lightly. I went from a R1200RT to a GT and WOW. Now if the weather will cooperate!!!!!!!

Sounds like a great ride Dan, wish I was with you but my GT is back in the shop as I try and get the clutch hoodoo sorted for hopefully the last time before my warranty runs out. (and the fact that im 20,000klms away)
Im not sure if id dig sub 40 temps but taking a ride like that with only 4 cars, count me in!!
It must be tricky getting heat into the tyres at those temps? Keep the ride reports coming!

Dadi, hope you guys are doing ok with the fires, and floods. I'll be out again tomorrow, as for the tires, the bike is in my garage, so it's warmer than outside temps when I leave, and friction does the rest. The Dade, and Montague will be deserted tomorrow as well the crowds don't venture out that far East until around April or May. As for the cold temps sometimes I prefer it over the heat of the summer. I don't have to tell you how sticky a sweaty helmet gets, besides never get any bugs on the windshield in winter. Can't wait until after first service is done so I can stop staring at the tachometer keeping it under 7K is becoming a chore. Stay safe Dadi
