Whatís your farkle power draw?

Iím experimenting with a farkle that may draw between 150 and 250 W. Will the charging system be able to handle it? I hear claims that the alternator can put out up to 945 W, but I donít know for what conditions that applies.

I know some out there who have auxiliary lights that pull 70 to 110 W. If you burn them along with your high beams, then that makes 180 to 220 W. Has anyone had any problems with that? (The farkle Iím playing with will not be used at night, so use with high beams is not an issue).

Thanks.

250 watts? Your bike will not even notice it. I tried loading my bike up at idle and it still maintained a good voltage. some of the stuff I had on was four 55 watt halogens, three 35 watt hid lights, heated seat and grips on high, gps, radar detector, tire pressure monitor, and heated jacket.

What kind of farkle?? I gotta know. Some kind of smoke generator or shock system? EMP pulse protection or maybe a chain gun?

If you need the wattage the bike will give it, up to the 945 watt max. All modern alternators will be weaker at idle but jump up to full power at very low rpms above that. And the GT has one of the best alternators in the business.

So unless you're going to be running this mystery accessory only at idle or with the bike not running, then don't worry about it.

I know, you picked up one of these, didn't you?

Itís a semi-hare-brained basement improvisation thatís too embarrassing to admit to right now. If it looks like it has a chance of working, Iíll let yíall know. If you hear news reports of a small mushroom cloud seen near Worcester MA, then youíll know something went terribly wrong.

Hopefully - although I doubt it from your locale - you're working on some sort of fancy-shmancy refrigeration apparatus. I hate the bike when it get over 95 degrees in sunny and hot CA and I'm sweating like a rotisseried pig in the suit in traffic.
