Unhappy Throttle grip rattle on K1300gt

BMW seem to have overcome the known problems of the old K1200gt on the K1300gt but I think they have created a new one with their new switchgear and smaller grips. Has anyone else experienced the annoying problem of the throttle grip rattling on the handlebar when there is not much weight on the grips? There is over 1/16th of an inch difference between the handlebar o/s diameter and the inside of the grip diameter. I have reported this to my dealer who advised me the new K1300 bikes are like this and there is nothing they could do to stop it and would contact BMW for a solution!

If BMW doesn't have a fix, I'd try just pulling the grip and wraping the handle bar in electrical tape to take up the gap...

I have seen several K1300GT's and what bugs me as much as the appearance of the new switch gear, and reservoirs, is the diameter of the grip is extremely small. probably better for female riders, but no help for those of us with big hands.

Okay, so I'm not crazy. I too thought the grips are a little small. I've gotten used to them now, but it took a while.

I had an old Harley that I put smaller diameter chrome grips on so it would look cool. Ended up having a harder time controlling the carb's throttle plate especially in winding canyons. Acted like I was turning a pencil for air delivery instead of a larger grip which gave me more control. Ended up putting the larger stockers back on.

The smaller grips may offer more heat though.

Grips

I was SOOO happy to see the RT style hand grips on my '08 K12GT after having the "sport" grips on my R12ST. I got used to them but I never really liked them. Sorry to see the K1300GT using the smaller grip. It's also very expensive if you want to change to the RT style touring grip. It was a couple of hundred + to do it on the ST because the heating element is incorporated in the grip.

Or you could buy just the rubber grip part without the heater element for ~$20. We did that a lot on the LT site. There are part numbers and more info in this thread.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

I don't know why this didn't come up sooner. For ~$7 problem solved.

Grips

I tried that at the dealer Ken. I thought the rubber should be a separate item. Not according to my local dealers (checked both of them). They quoted like a hundred and some bucks each. Thanks for the thread but I spent thousands more trading up to a K12GT and the grips were worth it!
