Broken Rider Footpeg Springs

This morning I found that the left footpeg "return" spring was broken on my 2007 K1200GT. (I think it broke overnight, while the bike was parked in the garage.)

The funny thing is that the right footpeg spring broke last October. I don't do anything anything unusual with the footpegs. I live in Southern California, so you can't attribute the failures to rust or salt or constant rainy weather.

It seems strange to have both springs fail in less than two years of ownership. Until now, I have never seen a broken footpeg spring in 30 years of riding. Is this a common failure for the rest of you with GTs?
