Unhappy 2003 K1200GT - Salvage or Toss

Less than 10mph bump into the back of an SUV pushed the top fairing back about an inch and broke the front fender. Insurance is offering $9.5k, salvage would be $1600. Dealer (Morton's in VA), stopped writing the estimate when parts hit $8k. Due to deployments over the past few years, she only had 8k miles. Anyone have thoughts? Really don't want to see her go salvage, but know it's going to take some work getting that upper front fairing back together. Thanks, M

If the bike is paid for I'd take the 9.5k in a heartbeat and put it towards an '09. Maybe this is the universes way of telling you to buy a new bike.

That's what my gut is saying. Just NOT the best time to be buying a new one. Would rather be buying in December... Thanks for confirming my gut reaction.

Don't get stuck on previous preconceptions about when to buy a vehicle. Those rules are gone now, as everybody scrambles for that elusive sale. BMW has already offered some great incentives this year, and the tax credit is kicking in now too.

Talk to your dealer and see what's the best deal he can do for you. Then make your decision based on that.

Oh, and there are still a few new '08 bikes around that you might get a killer deal on. Then again, if it was me, I'd go for the '09 and not look back.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

+1 on what Meese said. There are deals to be had, sales are slower this season than anticipated, so you shold be able to get a new ride for yourself in fairly short order. You will miss the old bike, but a new one will bring the miles and smiles back!

Kelly Blue Book on the bike Retail Value is $9090.00. I don't know what extras you have, and your mileage is low so thats a credit, but I say take the 9500.00 and run. Pick up a new 2008, or a new 2009. By all accounts the 2009 is more refined, but many of us have been lucky with late production 2008's. One thing I would not do, is try to save the 03 GT. I'm sure you have many fine memories, but sometimes you just have to say goodbye.
