1300GT seat stinks

I did a short 2 hour ride to the beach yesterday and I found the stock seat of my new 1300GT to be uncomfortable. I've been riding since I was 12 (35 years) and this seat has to be one of the worst I've ever owned. I've sat in church pews more comfortable than this.

So, I decided to buy a http://www.beadrider.com/ and see if that helps. I'll post a review when I get it.

Insufficient break in time. I would suggest replacing your toilet seat with the K13GT seat and stocking the library with more magazines. The OEM seat will then either stink or it won't. Hard to predict. What did you expect for $22K

Now that I think of it, only one other vehicle had worse seats.... a BMW 7 series I had back in 2001. Those were so bad my wife wouldn't ride in it. I guess that engineer got transfered to the motorcycle group.

Seriously, I used to operate the live TV bikes for sports events (like bicycle events and marathons). Nothing would accentuate a bad seat, like having a cameraman leaning on you for hours. I have hundreds of hours in the saddle of various BMW's for these events, and never noticed the seats being unusually uncomfortable.

This seat causes a pressure right at the center of the rear, like there's a slight hump in the wrong place. First time I ever had parts of me go numb.

Time for a Russell Day-Long Saddle, but only if you want comfort over looks of course. Once you sit on it, you sort'a say "...aaahh!"
Might sit you an inch higher though since it's got internal springs (patented by the Mayer brother's father).

<I really miss the Velor-topped one I had on the old RT>

BMW seats are notorious for not being very comfortable; no stock seat lasted longer than about 1500 miles on any of the 8 BMWs I've owned. I would recommend shopping the aftermarket for a custom saddle. I have a Rick Mayer saddle that is awesome, but Sargent, Russell, Bill Mayer, Corbin and others make saddles for the GT.

Sure beats the old one

The seat on my 06 K1200GT was terrible. Just got back from a 1600 mile trip, and have to say the seat on the K1300GT was much, much better.

The bike I traded for the K1300GT was a Goldwing. So, I may be spoiled with regards to the seat. Otherwise, I think this bike is fantastic. I use it daily to get to work, so my rides aren't usually more than 30 minutes anyway.

No problems with the stock seat for me. Actually, I like it. Perhaps that's because I never tried an aftermarket seat. I ride mostly daily short commutes, but I have done some day-long rides (200-600 miles) and a SaddleSore 1000.

Most people who don't like the stock seat are very happy with their aftermarket seats, but there are some exceptions. I have read a lot of posts about Corbin seats; people seem to like them, but complain bitterly about the lack of service and support. If you don't like your Corbin, getting them to respond to queries or fix the problems seems to be an issue.

If I were looking for an after market seat, I wouldn't buy a Corbin. I would think about a Rocky (Bill) Mayer seat. He is close to me in So. Cal., and I met him at the Motorcycle Show in Long Beach - seems like an up-front, okay guy. Meese rides about 30K miles a year (or more) and likes the Rocky Mayer seats. I tried Meese's Rocky Mayer seat in a parking lot once. It was better than stock, but it wasn't so much better that I would want to invest the money to get one like it.

I some longer rides planned over the next couple months. I may change my tune after that.

Seats?! Again?!........Argh.

More than any other piece or farkle on the bike seats are by far the most personal and subjective. What is good for one person is rarely good for another. As I've said before.....even a Lazy Boy is uncomfortable after a while. Do some butt crunches and get yer' ass in shape!
